Cover art: 'The Way of Kings' by Brandon Sanderson

There's a bit of preemptive buzz over Brandon Sanderson's upcoming series, The Stormlight Archive, with the first book, The Way of Kings, scheduled to be released this year. Sanderson has planned for a 10 book series, so we'll see how this one turns out. Judging from the tidbits released, it certainly sounds like an interesting story, featuring a epic landscape of various conflicting peoples.

Given his popularity over Wheel of Time's The Gathering Storm and his own novels, he should make waves with this project and provide for some additional excitement as other major series wind down to a close.

The cover itself is pretty neat, with a good balance of colour and detail. I particularly like how your eye travels upwards to see this huge storm bloating our the sun. Not sure I like the people though, the way their handling their weapons looks odd. The full cover is even more impressive:

Michael Whelan, the artist of the cover, has a few words about how he created the cover and provides some sketches of the concept.

Brandon Sanderson also chips in with his own thoughts about the cover and what it means for him.

Yeah, I will probably wait and see on this one as epic fantasy isn't really my thing. His writing is okay in parts but has yet to really grab me.

I'm looking forward to getting more information about this topic, don't worry about negative opinions.

I recently purchased this book and about halfway through. Will try to get a review up in a couple of weeks. :)
